🥾 Day 1 – Sembalun Village (1,150m) to Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639m)

Your Mount Rinjani 2 Days 1 Night summit trek begins in Sembalun Village (1,150m) in eastern Lombok. After registration and a safety briefing at the Rinjani Trek Centre, we start hiking through wide open savanna landscapes along the Sembalun route.

The trail gradually ascends past Post 2 (Tengengean) and Post 3 (Pada Balong), where we take rest and lunch breaks before continuing the steeper climb to the crater rim.

By late afternoon, we reach Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639m), your campsite for the night, offering direct views of the Mount Rinjani summit route.

Trekking time: approximately 7–8 hours
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging

Highlights:

  • Scenic savanna trekking on the Sembalun route
  • Gradual elevation gain with panoramic valley views
  • Lunch break at Pada Balong (Post 3)
  • Sunset at Sembalun Crater Rim
  • Summit preparation under the stars

After dinner prepared by our porter team, we rest early to prepare for the midnight summit ascent.

Summit day begins around 2:30 AM. Equipped with headlamps, we start the ascent across volcanic sand terrain — the most challenging section of the Mount Rinjani summit trek.

Reaching the summit of Mount Rinjani (3,726m) at sunrise is the ultimate reward. From the top, you can see Lombok, Bali’s Mount Agung, Sumbawa Island, and the Indian Ocean.

After celebrating and taking photos, we descend back to the crater rim for breakfast before continuing the long descent to Sembalun Village.
